Comments:
The framing sequence of this story takes place in Late February, 1942. The flashback takes place on June 28-29, 1941, immediately following the events depicted in All-Star Comics #7.

Pages 5 and 6 of this story recap the events in All-Star Comics #7.

As a result of his failure to save a young boy’s life, Green Lantern elects to leave active duty and become an honorary member of the Justice Society after this story.

Hourman begins his leave of absence from the Justice Society after this story, due to the side effects of Miraclo.

Dr. Fate begins to feel the possession of his soul, by Nabu, through his original helmet. As revealed in All-Star Squadron #23, following this story, he gives up using the full-helmet in favor of the less powerful half-helm. He will continue in the half-helm until the revival of the JSA in Justice League of America #21.

As a result of the radiation emitted from the death-throes of Ian Karkull, the JSAers present, as well as non-members Starman, Hawkgirl, Lois Lane, Robin, and Joan Williams, receive a boost of vitality which is partially responsible for their longevity decades later.

Due to Lightning Master’s presence in this story, it can be assumed that the events in the fourth story of Superman #14 occurred during a time-period prior to this story, though it was chronicled sometime afterwards.

Synopsis:
While capturing spies, Tarantula and Wonder Woman stumble upon evidence of an untold JSA case.

Following their donation of a million dollars to war orphans, Green Lantern and Dr. Fate prevent the assassination of President Roosevelt by Ian Karkull’s shadow-men. After learning about several other planned assassinations, they contact the other members of the JSA to protect the targets.

Each JSAer successfully defeats their opponent, but Green Lantern fails to protect a young boy from Wotan. Once their individual foes are defeated, the combined membership, along with Starman, Hawkgirl, and Robin converge upon Karkull himself.

The combined power of the Spectre, Green Lantern’s ring, and Starman’s gravity rod, is able to destroy Karkull and bathe those present, including Lois Lane and Joan Williams, with radiation.

Hourman decides to take a leave of absence, having experienced the side effects of Miraclo. Green Lantern also leaves active duty and chairmanship, stating fatigue from both solo adventures and JSA duties prevented him from saving the boy. Finally Dr. Fate, returns to his Salem tower to investigate Nabu’s possession of him through his helmet.

Unknown to the JSA, the assassination targets were all future presidents of the United States. Information had gained from the future.
