Comments:
This story is continued from Justice League of America #82.
The reason for the Spectre's imprisonment in the crypt is never explained. Oddly, he had appeared at the meeting in Justice League of America #82 during which the JSA discussed the alien threat. Why he returned to the crypt, rather than remaining to face the menace remains a mystery.
This story seems to show the destruction of the Spectre. The character returns in Adventure Comics #431 operating on Earth-1. Therefore, rather than actually being destroyed, he was merely transported to the other Earth. The exact nature of this migration was never revealed, but while operating on Earth-1, the Spectre inhabited the body of that Earth's Jim Corrigan.
Synopsis:
CreatorČ, an alien world builder, intends to destroy Earth-2 and Earth-1 by using Red Tornado as a bridge to being both planets together. After defeating three members of the JSA who intended to stop him, CreatorČ launches an attack against the rest of the team. Most of them are taken out. Only Johnny Thunder and Doctor Fate escape.
Back on Earth-1, the Atom, Green Arrow, and Green Lantern try to convince Black Canary that she is not the cause of the peril which plagues their world. Green Lantern enters the void and discovers Red Tornado. However, when his Earth-2 counterpart is defeated, Hal Jordan is likewise immobilized. On Earth-1, Hawkman also falls when his Earth-2 double is ensnared.
Johnny Thunder and Doctor Fate contact the Spectre for help. The ghostly JSA member has been imprisoned in a crypt and could not act until summoned. Using his near omnipotent powers, the Spectre acts as a barrier to prevent the two Earths from colliding. Doctor Fate and Johnny's Thunderbolt then track down the alien ship and destroy it. With the aliens defeated, the immobilized heroes regain their senses, Red Tornado is released, and both Earths return to normal. Black Canary rejoices because she no longer has to sacrifice her life. However, the Spectre does not survive.
