Synopsis:
Red Tornado comes to Earth-1 to warn the JLA of a peril facing the Justice Society, but before they can hear him out, the super-heroes must deal with an unknown agency which has transformed Hawkman and several other citizens of Midway City into salt statues. Marmaduke Mantick, an amateur sorcerer, has inadvertently conjured up a host of demons by using the Philosopher's Stone, and these are responsible for the transformations.

The Justice League saves Mantick from attempted assault by a motorcycle gang, whose leader is one of the victims, and encounters the gang again when they kidnap Hawkgirl and attempt to exchange her for Mantick.

After waiting thirteen days for the Philosopher's Stone to become reactivated, the heroes are dismayed to learn that the would-be magician has misread his mystic parchments: the stone needs thirteen thousand years, not days, to recharge. Gallantly, the Justice League members wage a hopeless assault against the demon forces, but it is the non-human Red Tornado, immune to the salt-transformation spell, who repels the magical foes and reverses the doom that had befallen Hawkman and the others.
