History:
Superman was born Kal-El on the planet Krypton. Kal-El’s father, Jor-El, was the planet’s greatest scientist. Jor-El discovered that Krypton was nearing its destruction. Jor-El brought his findings to the Science Counsel, who found his theories ludicrous. With little time remaining until the planet’s inevitable destruction, Jor-El constructed a rocket that would carry his infant son, Kal-El. Jor-El’s theories proved correct, and when the quakes signalling the planet’s doom came, Jor-El launched Kal-El to Earth, while he and his people met their end.

Kal-El’s rocket landed near the farming town Smallville. It was found by Jonathan and Martha Kent who found the baby inside. The Kents turned him over to the orphanage, but quickly grew attached and adopted them as their own, naming him Clark.

The Kents soon discovered that the baby possessed incredible powers, most notably super-strength and invulnerability. The Kents also found blankets inside the crashed rocket which even a shot from Jonathan’s rifle could not harm. Martha constructed a playsuit for Clark from these blankets. As Clark grew older he learned of his Kryptonian heritage and also patrolled the skys of Smallville as Superboy.

Using a pair of glasses Clark was able to disguise the identity of Superboy and live as a normal boy. He constructed a series of Superboy robots to assist him in his duties as well. Sometime later, he encountered his Kryptonian pet dog, Krypto, who Jor-El had launched into space as a test. Krypto gained super powers on Earth as well, and became Superboy’s pal.

When the Kents died of a rare tropical disease, Clark left Smallville and came to Metropolis. After attending college, Clark got a job at the Daily Planet, where he met and fell in love with Lois Lane. He continued to lead a double life, now as Superman.

Superman became Earth’s greatest hero and his good deeds were known throughout the galaxy. Superman would often join forces with another superhero, Batman, and was a founding member of the Justice League of America.

During his adventures Superman has encountered many other Kryptonian survivors including his cousin Kara, who survived Krypton’s destruction inside a domed city. She escaped to Earth when the city has destroyed by Kryptonite radiation. Another Kryptonian city, Kandor, survived Krypton’s doom. A space villains, Brainiac had shrunk the city to tiny size and kept it in a bottle. Superman recovered the bottle and after many years was able to restore the city to normal. The Kandorians created a community on another planet called New Krypton.

Through all his time on Earth, one of the few things that could harm Superman was Kryptonite. Kryptonite is pieces of Superman’s homeworld Krypton that have become deadly due to the radiation released during the planetary explosion. Several varieties exist, but none are as deadly as Green Kryptonite which weakens Superman and if exposure is prolonged will kill him.

Powers:
Superman has tremendous strength, invulnerability, super-speed (which can even break the time barrier), flight, super-breath, and various super-visions including X-Ray, heat, microscopic and telescopic visions. Superman also possesses a super-brain. His only vulnerabilities are kryptonite and magic.
