Comments:
This is the first meeting of Sgt. Rock, Jeb Stuart, and Johnny Cloud.
Johnny Cloud is promoted to captain in this story. Jeb Stuart and Sgt. Rock are promoted to lieutenant.
Mademoiselle Marie's father was apparently killed in his first appearance in the first story of Star Spangled War Stories #84. His appearance in this story either confirms that he survived or that Marie's claim that he is her father is false. He appears to die again in this story, but returns in G.I. Combat #127.
Synopsis:
Lieutenant Johnny Cloud is given a top secret mission to rescue an allied informant from behind enemy lines. He locates the informant named Martin, who has been sealed inside an iron suit to protect his identity. Johnny tries to return to Allied territory, but his plane is shot down.
Johnny and Martin are nearly killed, but they land near an American tank led by Sgt. Jeb Stuart. Johnny and Jeb get Martin aboard the tank and attempt to resume their escape.
When enemy tanks threaten the Haunted Tank, Johnny and Jeb meet up with Easy Company, led by Sgt. Rock. Rock helps to knock out their pursuit. Martin is then released from the iron suit. The informant turns out to be Mademoiselle Marie, a member of the French underground who has met Sgt. Rock once previously.
Rock, Cloud, and Stuart manage to escort Marie to safety. Marie's information proves vital to stopping a Nazi plot. The soldiers are then awarded promotions for their action. Johnny Cloud is promoted to captain. Rock and Stuart are promoted to lieutenant. Rock vows to get himself demoted back to sergeant, so that he can remain with Easy Company.
