Synopsis:
Arion, Chian, and Mara walk home on foot after leaving the city of Mu. Arion reveals to Chian that during his epic battle with Garn Daanuth, he absorbed Garn into himself. Since that time Arion has felt the evil inside of himself. The sword that Arion found in Garn's tower in Thamuz has amplified the effect making the mage prone to bouts of blood lust.
Shortly thereafter, Arion and his friends are captured by a group of animal men. These were once men that were experimented on by Atlantean scientists and changed into beasts. Bylgor, the leader of the animal men hates all men for the wrongs perpetrated on him and his people and intends to kill Arion.
The fight is interrupted by General Balar who has joined with the animal men. Balar has his own hatred of Arion and a fight between the two men ensues. When Arion prevails using the power of the magic sword, the beast men attack him. Rather than slay them, Arion throws the sword away. Bylgor calls off the attack and allows Arion and his friends to depart in peace.
Meanwhile, Wyynde is introduced to Fawndancer, a girl to whom he is to be married as part of his new role as dhonu. Although Wyynde has only reluctantly taken the leadership role of the Khe-Wannantu, he accepts and carries out his end of the promise by marrying Fawndancer.
