Synopsis:
When a man is murdered in the Gotham City public library, Barbara Gordon suspects that her old foe Cormorant is responsible. Four years earlier the assassin shot and nearly killed her. While Batgirl investigates Cormorant, a female killer dubbed Slash by the media has been killing violent men who have thwarted justice.
Barbara soon receives a visit from her childhood friend Marcy who recently lost her husband in an accident. Marcy knows that Barbara is Batgirl since they shared their childhood fantasies. Marcy tries to convince Barbara to give up her costumed identity. Barbara begins to doubt whether she wants to continue especially since other heroes are capable of curbing the street crime.
Despite her doubts, Batgirl continues working the Cormorant case. She confronts the assassin in his home, but he holds her at gunpoint. Cormorant's abused wife has called in Slash for help and a battle between the three begins. Slash kills Cormorant, but is shot and critically injured in the process. After Batgirl watches Slash being taken to the hospital she returns home to tell Marcy that this was her last case.
