History:
The Flying Graysons were already the foremost trapeze performers in the Haley Circus long before their son Richard was born. Trained in acrobatics from birth, young Dick joined his parents' high-wire act at a very young age.
While on tour in Gotham City, nine-year-old Dick overheard "Boss" Anthony Zucco, a well-known and feared criminal boss, threaten circus owner Haley unless he paid extortion money. Haley refused.
That night, while watching his parents perform the solo portion of their act, the young boy watched in horror as the high wire snapped and his parents plunged to a painful death.
The deaths were quickly investigated by Gotham's Darknight Detective, Batman, who had been in the audience in his alter ego of millionaire Bruce Wayne. Not long after being made Wayne's ward, Dick learned that Bruce was the Batman and insisted on becoming his partner in crimefighting as well.
Training commenced, and months later Dick Grayson became part of the newly formed team of Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder.
Time passed, and Robin became a crime-fighting legend like his mentor, Batman. Dick met other special teenagers and created the first group of Teen Titans, whose roster included Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, Aqualad, and Speedy, among others.
A few years later, a second group of Teen Titans was formed, once again with Robin as their leader; Robin was joined by most of his old teammates and newer heroes like Mal Duncan and Lilith. This group disbanded when Dick began his college studies at Hudson University. While Dick soon dropped out of college, he later returned to complete his degree in psychology and criminology.
Finally, a third group of Teen Titans was formed. Again, Robin was its leader, this time joined by Kid Flash, Wonder Girl, Changeling, Starfire, Raven, and Cyborg. This group continued to thrive and to grow even as they finally outgrew their teen-age appellations and the youths eventually changed their name to the New Titans.
Over the years, personal relations between Dick Grayson and Bruce Wayne became strained. Batman grew more and more intense, and his methods of operation were, to Dick Grayson's mind, more brutal than Robin thought necessary. When Dick finally decided to move away from his mentor, he also decided to change his heroic name and costume.
No longer would Dick simply be Batman's youthful partner; now his own person, Robin the Boy Wonder had grown up to become, Nightwing, the New Titans' leader, a position he maintains today. Nightwing has, for the past few years, been involved romantically with fellow Titan Starfire.
Powers:
Nightwing does not possess any special super-powers. Raised as a circus aerialist and taught and trained by the Batman, Dick is an amazing detective, a supreme acrobat, and a natural leader. Nightwing's greatest attribute is his brain. He's a quick thinker whose keen mind has gotten his comrades and himself out of countless problem situations.
Nightwing is a superb hand-to-hand combatant, also acquiring those skills from the Batman.
