Synopsis:
The Green Lantern Corps is faced with the destruction of the Central Power Battery which is reabsorbing the green energy of their power rings. As the energy is reclaimed, the power rings disappear one by one. Flodo Span and Hal Jordan attempt to penetrate the dimensional barrier and reach the Guardians for assistance. Hal successfully reaches them, but Flodo's ring loses power, and he dissipates in the gulf between dimensions. Hal is unable to convince the Guardians to return, but they advise him to enter the Battery itself.
Hal returns to Oa. While the other Green Lanterns fight the escaped prisoners who were incarcerated on Oa, Hal enters the Battery. Inside he is confronted by seemingly sentient dangers. When he reaches the core he discovers that Sinestro's mind is inhabiting the Battery. Hal is nearly beaten, but the arrival of Appa Ali Apsa restores his will. Hal releases the yellow impurity which prevents Sinestro from possessing the Battery with his sentience. Appa, whose immortality and power has been restored, is able to seal the core of the Battery, stabilizing it.
Hal and Appa exit the Battery which now possesses only a fraction of its former power. Most of the Corps are now powerless and new power rings can no longer be created. Hal promises to transport the stranded Corps back to their own worlds. Appa remains on Oa as a caretaker. A few Green Lanterns still possess working power rings including Ch'p. Salakk visits his planet and agrees to stay there as his advisor. John, Katma, and Kilowog return to Earth without their rings.
