Comments:
Laurel claims to be the ninth member of the Legion. Brainiac 5 was inducted at the same time. Bouncing Boy is present at the Legion tryouts, but he is not likely a member at this point. Sun Boy is shown at Laurel's first meeting with the Legion which indicates that he was a member. By process of elimination this means that that first eight Legionnaires in post-Crisis continuity were: Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, Lightning Lad, Phantom Girl, Triplicate Girl, Chameleon Boy, Colossal Boy, and Sun Boy. In pre-Crisis continuity, Sun Boy joined the team after Brainiac 5 and Supergirl, while Invisible Kid was already a member. Later stories contradict this order with the insertion of Kid Quantum.

A Kid Quantum statue appears on Winath making this the first mention of the character.

The flashback in this story is partially a reworking of the story in which the pre-Crisis Supergirl joined the Legion.

Synopsis:
Roxxas reviews a recording on the history of Laurel Gand. Laurel grew up on an outpost of Daxam which was attacked by Khunds. Her parents were killed, but Laurel managed to activate the outpost's defenses in time to destroy most of the Khund fleet. She was branded an enemy of the Khunds who sent assassins to kill her.

Laurel sought refuge on Earth where she eventually joined the Legion of Super-Heroes. During her induction trials, Laurel met Brainiac 5 and began a romance with him.
