Name: Legion of Super-Heroes
Universe: Post-Crisis
First Appearance: Legion of Super-Heroes #28
History:
Late in the 30th century, massively powerful forces have arisen to threaten the entire known universe, but one group, the Legion of Super-Heroes, has consistently defended the rights of the free worlds and upheld the sanctity of United Planets law.
The group was founded by billionaire R.J. Brande, who had been saved from assassination by three super-powered teens. Inspired by the legend of 20th-century teen hero Valor, Brande persuaded his rescuers to form an organization of super-powered youths, funded by Brande and dedicated to the common good.
The three founding members, Imra Ardeen, Rokk Krinn, and Garth Ranzz, displayed an intuitive genius for selecting their teammates and quickly assembled an impressive team of dedicated, noble heroes who quickly achieved legendary status. Over the years, the Legion frequently saved the U.P. from massive threats, including the repeated Khund invasions, the rise of Mordru's empire, the attack of the Sun-Eater, the various schemes of the Fatal Five, the siege of Darkseid's Great Darkness, and the Magic Wars.
But when economic calamity hit the U.P. in 2989, the Legion faced its greatest crisis. Key members exited to tend to personal emergencies and crises on their home planets, while Legion affairs became almost impossible to conduct, thanks to a campaign of harassment by Earthgov. Finally, with most of the members gone and morale at an all-time low, the group disbanded in 2992.
By later 2994, Reep Daggle (Cham), son of Legion founder R.J. Brande, had managed to put Brande Industries' house in order and set his sights on the reformation of the Legion. After a cursory recruitment campaign, the rescue of Mysa Nal from Mordru, and the hunt for the killer Roxxas, Cham brought together several ex-teammates and a few new acquaintances. With Rokk Krinn falling into a field-leader role and Cham providing the bankroll and organizational leadership, the Legion was reborn; but now, dealing with a chaotic universe filled with self-appointed power-brokers and frontier-style justice, the Legion faces the least predictable, most exotic challenges in its history.
The group's home base is currently an old outpost, lent to the Legion by Garth Ranzz, repositioned in the heart of the today's U.P.
