Arion and his friends join the crew of the pirate ship the Black Unicorn. The ship is attacked by three vessels belonging to Damurn traders. Arion, Chian, and Mara join Bloodmoor in defending the pirate ship, while Wyynde broods below decks. During the battle Bloodmoor guides his ship to retreat into a fog bank.
The ship becomes lost in the fog until they are brought to the domain of Altana, a sea god. Arion uses the power of the ship's sun gem to temporarily boost his magical ability. Arion engages Altana is combat, while Wyynde pays a final farewell to Fawndancer. With the sea god dispatched, Arion is brought back aboard the ship, which is now ready to return home.
