Comments:
Dr. Mid-Nite joins the JSA in this story, replacing Green Lantern. Dr. Mid-Nite’s owl, Hooty, is elected mascot. Starman is also a new member having joined sometime just before this story begins.

As revealed in All-Star Squadron #20, Dr. Elba has been secretly employed by the Brainwave, though he appears in this story to be independently motivated.

This is the first JSA adventure for Dr. Fate wearing his new helmet.

The JSA makes a guest appearance in the Hop Harrigan text story in All-Star Comics #8 following this story.

Synopsis:
The JSA members arrive for their latest meeting to learn that each has had difficulty on their last case because key witnesses having suddenly gone insane and are afraid of light. Non-member Dr. Mid-Nite arrives and explains he had a similar experience and has developed an antidote to the insanity virus. The virus was created by Professor Elba and distributed to crooks.

The JSA members return to their individual cases, using Dr. Mid-Nite’s antidote to restore the sanity of the afflicted men. After closing each of their own cases the JSA members turn their attention to finding the creator of the virus, Dr. Elba.

Johnny Thunder is captured after his adventure and brought to Elba’s laboratory. Johnny stubbornly does not want to summon his Thunderbolt for help, believing his can solve the case himself. Accidentally, Johnny says the magic words anyway, and the T-Bolt brings the JSA to his rescue. Dr. Mid-Nite is brought to the lab as well and follows Elba into a darkness room. Elba mistakenly injects himself with the virus and insanely leaps to his death. Dr. Mid-Nite is then welcomed into the JSA, joining Starman as a new member.
