Comments:
This story is told from the point of view of a piece of Green Kryptonite. It is a sequel to the second story of Superman #173.
Superman builds his Fortress of Solitude in flashback in this story.
Synopsis:
While returning from a foreign assignment, Clark Kent's plane experiences engine trouble in the arctic. The passengers parachute to safety. Clark encounters a chunk of Green Kryptonite that he previously encountered as a boy. He gets to safety, then rescues the passengers. Later he returns to the arctic where he constructs his Fortress of Solitude.
Sometime later, Superman retrieves the Kryptonite to be used in an experiment. The Green K is altered so that it no longer weakens Superman. Unfortunately it now affects regular humans. Superman returns the altered Green K to his Fortress, but the effects of the experiment have worn off, and the Green K weakens him again. Once again, he avoids harm. Then he hurls the meteorite into space. The Green K passes through a cosmic cloud changing it into Red Kryptonite and propelling it back to Earth.
