Comments:
This is the first post-Crisis race between Superman and the Flash race. The race takes place concurrently with Hawk and Dove #9 and New Gods #13.
Synopsis:
Mr. Mxyzptlk returns to Earth. When he defaces Mount Rushmore, Flash responds. When Mxyzptlk asks Flash if he is faster than Superman, Flash can't answer. The imp decides to stage a race to determine the answer. He then forces Superman and Flash to circle the globe on a magical racetrack. Although Superman expects to be faster, Flash surprises everyone including himself by keeping pace. As the race progresses both competitors tire. They are also forced to deal with hazards of Mxyzptlk's design along the way. The entire world watches the race as it reaches its conclusion. The Flash wins in a shocking upset. Mr. Mxyzptlk is also shocked as he was only planning to leave if Superman lost. He suspects that Superman knew that and held back, but he leaves anyway. Superman tells Flash that he won the race fair and square.
