History:
Lex Luthor, the archenemy of Superman, is one of the world's two or three wealthiest men and is the head of one of its largest and most powerful corporations, Lexcorp. A genius as an industrialist, Luthor founded Lexcorp and guided its rise to its present size and power.
Lexcorp principally manufactures electronice devices of all sorts, but is also involved in many other areas of business and industry. Lexcorp has offices and operation throughout the non-Communist world, but its main offices are in Metropolis.
Due to his vast wealth and the great influence it gave him, Luthor was once known as the most powerful man in Metropolis. Lexcorp has part ownership of virtually every major business based in Metropolis. Although rumors persist that he engages in criminal activities, no wrongdoing on his part has ever been proved legally. Instead, Luthor is renowned as a philanthropist.
Luthor has long sought to add Lois Lane, a star reporter for Metropolis's newspaper the Daily Planet, to his list of romantic conquests, but she has steadfastly resisted.
About a year and a half after Superman's public debut, Luthor held a party aboard his immense ship, the Sea Queen. During the party terrorists opposed to Lexcorp's South American activities attacked the ship. Warned in advance of a possible hijacking, Luthor had ordered his security force to hold back. Luthor hoped that Superman would intervene and that he could thus observe this new super-hero in action. Superman did indeed thwart the terrorists, but Metropolis's Mayor Frank Berkowitz, furious that Luthor had thus endangered innocent people, appointed Superman a special deputy on the spot and had him arrest Luthor. When Luthor objected that he himself was the most powerful man in Metropolis, Berkowitz replied, "No, you're not, Lex. Not anymore." In other words, Superman now was.
Luthor then suffered the humiliation of being jailed like an ordinary criminal. His lawyers saw to it he was not convicted, and Luthor vowed never to be arrested again. Determined to reassert himself as the most powerful man in Metropolis, Luthor confronted Superman and pledged to destroy him, but in such a way that although everyone would know Luthor was responsible, no one would be able to prove it.
Over the succeeding years Luthor has tried repeatedly to destroy Superman through various agents. So far Superman has survived but has been unable to prove Luthor's connection with the attacks.
Powers:
Lex Luthor has no super-powers but is a genius at creating concepts for new inventions and products from Lexcorp. He leave it to his employees to work out how to implement these ideas.
Luthor is a master at devising strategies for attacking Superman and has access to Lexcorp's advanced technology and weaponry.
