Comments:
This story continues in Martian Manhunter #2.
The sentient cell from Justice League Annual #1 serves as a catalyst for J'onn's madness in this story.
Synopsis:
In Gotham City, Batman chases a child killer who falls to his death. As Batman examines the body, the Martian Manhunter suddenly appears. He is in pain and his body is malformed and distorted. Batman brings J'onn to the Batcave for help. J'onn briefly regains his senses and form, but the martian still appears to be hallucinating. Batman is unable to calm his teammate, and J'onn flees. The Dark Knight Detective then sees a phantom image that disappears. He resolves to contact the Justice League for help.
After leaving the Batcave, J'onn continues to flee. His mind fades in and out of reality. He is confronted by the same phantom that Batman saw in the Batcave. J'onn believes that the phantom is a creation of his own fever madness, but the being forces J'onn to confront his own past. J'onn believes that his fever is a result of the sentient spore he recently absorbed into his body. Despite this, he continues to be haunted by the phantom.
