Superman investigates a dead world formerly inhabited by a race known as the Tzols. The plant life on the planet has been killed by a blight, but he discovers one tree that is still alive. He brings it back to Earth and replants it in a park in Metropolis.

Superman brings Lois to see the tree, then he immediately falls under its spell. The tree is a sentient female. The tree reveals to Lois that it intends to mate with Superman and infect the Earth with spores that will consume human life. Lois tries to kill the tree, but her efforts are repeatedly thwarted. Eventually Lois discovers that she was seeing the mental fantasy of the tree which was feeding off her brain waves. The tree is now dying because human minds could not sustain it.
