Synopsis:
While returning from a trip to the South Pacific, Jimmy Olsen's plane is forced down by a storm. Jimmy, Lucy Lane, and puppeteer Doc Marionette land on an uncharted island inhabited by spidermen, who were once ordinary spiders mutated by atomic radiation. The spidermen, who live underground, want to use Jimmy in order to adapt to the surface atmosphere. Once they are able to do so, they plan to invade.
The spidermen create a commando spider to go after Superman who poses the biggest threat to their invasion plans. The commando fails to kill Superman, then dies. The Man of Steel sees the body and knows that Jimmy is involved. He searches the South Pacific, locates the island where Jimmy is held, and defeats the spidermen. The creatures then die when accidentally exposed to the surface atmosphere.
After the battle, Superman explains to Jimmy that the assassin that came after him had copied Jimmy's respitory system to survive on the surface. As a result the creature had even copied Jimmy's head and face, leading Superman to conclude that his friend was a prisoner.
