Synopsis:
While investigating reports of a new animal in Africa, Superman and Jimmy Olsen witness an alien man pursued by an alien ship. Superman saves the man's life, then learns that the ship is piloted by a bounty hunter. The man Superman saved is a murderer. By stopping the ship, Superman has allowed the criminal to escape.
Superman is brought back to the aliens' home dimension to stand trial for aiding the murderer. Jimmy talks his way into acccompanying them as a defense attorney, although he is really being used as a hostage to ensure Superman's compliance. In the alien court, Superman is found guilty. As punishment he must perform only menial jobs for one year or until the killer is caught.
Superman and Jimmy return to Earth. Superman takes jobs as a dogcatcher, a window washer, and a street cleaner. Jimmy takes jobs to be close to Superman. He also has Professor Potter modify a watch to detect aliens. As Jimmy hoped the murderer shows up in disguise to watch Superman's humiliation. The modified watch allows Jimmy to find and capture the alien. With the killer in custody, Superman's sentence is over, and he can return to crimefighting.
