This story in told in parallel. Luthor gives his interpretation of events along the top half of the comic while a newspaper article by Lois Lane tells the story from her point of view along the bottom half of each page.

Synopsis:
Lex Luthor visits the Green Lantern Citadel. He convinces Celia Windward to join him for dinner. He then tells her a tale about a battle between Superman and a super-villain called Combattor. The battle raged in the streets of Metropolis, causing tremendous damage and endangering lives. In Luthor's tale, Superman is made to seem part of the problem. The Man of Steel eventually kills his foe, then flies away leaving the common people to clean up the mess.

Lex's tale does not accurately portray what really happened. When Combattor appeared, he tried to kidnap Lois Lane in order to lure Superman into combat. Instead Gangbuster, who was on a date with Lois, comes to the reporter's rescue. Jose is horribly overmatched, but he fights bravely. His back is broken at the conclusion of the fight, but not before Combattor's own power-suit kills him. Lois writes about Jose's heroism in a newspaper article.

Hours later, Superman confronts Luthor in his office. He knows that Lex created Combattor. The Man of Steel blames him for Gangbuster's injury. He also informs Lex that Celia did not fall for the lies he told her.
