Comments:
The sword made of Kryptonian metal appears next in the first story of Action Comics #333.
Synopsis:
A robot knight appears in Metropolis and robs a bank. Superman attempts to stop the robot, but he finds that the armor is stronger than he is. The knight's sword is also capable of cutting Superman's indestructible costume. Seemingly unable to defeat the knight, Superman challenges it to a final duel along the pier. He and the knight fall into the water. The knight emerges moments later, but Superman doesn't resurface.
The robot returns to his creator, criminal scientist Jon Smatten. Smatten holds a grudge against Superman who has captured him before. The knight was constructed with an experimental Kryptonian metal that was sent into space before Krypton exploded. Superman, hiding inside the robot, obtains a confession, then apprehends Smatten. The robot is disassembled. Superman keeps the sword in his Fortress for possible later use.
