This story is continued in part from Arak/Son of Thunder #24.
Synopsis:
Arak and his companions depart from White Cathay as the city disappears behind them. They are attacked by tartars led by Xadox, son of Xadox who died in the realm of Baphomet. A spell from Malagigi drives off the tartar horde, and Xadox is captured. Haakon then departs while the others take refuge in a cave for the night.
Arak and Valda explore the cave together and share a kiss while bathing in the hot springs. A short time later, Xadox escapes and releases a growing salamander from a cocoon. The fire breathing lizard attacks Arak and Valda. Malagigi is able to turn the salamander against Xadox, and it kills the tartar. Arak then breaks a stalactite on the cavern ceiling and uses it to kill the beast.
The next morning Arak and Satyricus depart. Arak has decided to return to his homeland to find the surviving members of his tribe. Malagigi and Valda begin the trip back to the Frankland.
