Synopsis:
Metron and Fastbak visit the ruins of the Old Gods deep in the tunnels beneath Apokolips. They discover a sword of immense power which Fastbak plans to deliver to Highfather. DeSaad detects the sword's power, and Darkseid orders his minion Infernus to retrieve it. Infernus confronts Fastbak who throws the sword into a boom tube to prevent it from falling into Darkseid's hands.
The sword reaches Earth. John Hedley, an ego-centric man with a vendetta against super-heroes, finds the sword. It transforms him into a powerful being resembling one of the Old Gods. He then confronts and battles Orion. Highfather arrives with Lightray and Fastbak. They take the sword from Hedley and return to New Genesis. Infernus then arrives and attacks Hedley. Orion saves him, but Hedley refuses to give up his own hatred of Orion and other super-heroes.
