Comments:

As revealed in Legion of Super-Heroes Annual #4, the escaped criminal in this story's flashback is Char Burrane who will later become Starfinger.

Synopsis:
Science Police officer Gigi Cusimano is faced with a difficult decision. To help her make a choice, she reflects back on her days at the Science Police Academy. As a young cadet Gigi became romantically involved with Gim Allon. While racing in the Martian desert, a meteor nearly struck Gim. It gave him the power to grow to giant size. Gigi and Gim then successfully captured an escaped criminal, making names for themselves.

Although they both had bright futures, Gim felt his powers would cause him to draw an unappealing posting with the Science Police. He decided instead to join the newly formed Legion of Super-Heroes alongside Chameleon Boy whom he met at try-outs. Gigi was then sent to a post on Takron Galtos and separated from Gim for years.

After reviewing the events in her mind, Gigi makes her decision. She then accepts a posting as Chief of the Mars Science Police detachment.
