Synopsis:
After helping Metropolis recover from a recent flood, Superman returns to the Daily Planet where Colin Thornton offers Clark Kent the position of editor of Newstime Magazine. Lois then mentions Jimmy Olsen's situation. Clark realizes that he has nearly forgotten Jimmy. To rectify the situation he visits Emil Hamilton's lab where he discovers more of his memories have been erased by the Eradicator.
Superman concludes that the Eradicator is responsible for the recent global environmental changes. He heads to Antarctica to destroy the Eradicator only to discover a massive Kryptonian fortress. Though Superman smashes some of the equipment, he is unable to stop the Eradicator itself.
Superman then enters a dimensional portal through which the Eradicator is bringing Kryptonian equipment. There he encounters a hologram of the Eradicator's inventor Kem-El. The hologram tells him the he must undergo a Kryptonian rite of passage to gain control of the Eradicator. To this end, Superman is sent back in time and space to the moment of Krypton's destruction. He meets his birth parents moments after they launches his birth matrix into space.
With the help of Jor-El, Superman completes the Kryptonian rite of passage. He then returns to Earth. The journey knocks him unconscious. When he awakens, the construction has ceased and the Eradicator has restored the Earth's environment to normal. Under the antarctic ice remains the Kryptonian fortress.
