Synopsis:
Christopher Columbus Ambler is the first child born in space. Due to his unusual birth, Chris becomes an immediate phenomenon on Earth. However, as a small child, Chris is abducted by aliens. Over the next few years, Chris's father searches for his son. He also analyzes the alien ship and finds a way to defeat their shields.

Nine years later, the alien ship returns. As planned, Chris's father uses his technology to defeat the alien shields. He and his allies are then able to kill the aliens and rescue Chris.

However, Chris did not need rescuing. He holds no allegiance to Earth. The aliens were the last 98 members of a dying race who were able to communicate with Chris telepathically with Chris and share their knowledge. Chris is upset that Earth people slaughtered the mentors who raised him for the last nine years. Rather than stay on Earth, Chris leaves to search for the K'l legacy, taking the name Chris KL-99.
