This story is continued from Legends of the Dark Knight #6 and continues in Legends of the Dark Knight #8.
Synopsis:
Crime boss Ottavio summons Batman with a Bat-Signal. He wants Batman's help to stop Mr. Whisper, a man Ottavio and his associates killed twenty years ago. Batman refuses to help, but when Ottavio mentions that Whisper casts no shadow, Bruce is reminded of his childhood. While attending private school as a boy, Bruce was taken to the office of Headmaster Winchester. While receiving corporal punishment, Bruce saw the severed head of his classmate Robert. He also saw that the headmaster, who later resigned following a scandal, cast no shadow.
When Mr. Whisper strikes at Ottavio, Batman surprises them both. Batman recognizes Mr. Whisper as Winchester, who also believes he knows Batman. Whisper escapes, but not before the poison he delivered has killed Ottavio.
