Synopsis:
Don Brice, a CIA agent, reaches the city of New Morlaidh to deliver a warning to the Atom. He then dies. The Atom recommends the Katarthans evacuate the city while he goes after a group of land developers who are planning to burn the jungle surrounding the city with napalm in order to make room for farmland. Due to a language barrier, the Atom can't communicate with the Portuguese developers. They see him as a demon and attack. In the ensuing fight, a stray gunshot strikes the stored napalm and creates a devastating explosion.
The Atom is knocked out, and when he regains consciousness, everything in the surrounding area has been destroyed including New Morlaidh. After a search for the Katarthans comes up empty, the Atom goes after the developers again. They trap him in a sealed room, but he is able to escape via the phone lines.
The Atom emerges from the phone of his friend Norman Brawler. He then grows to a height of three feet tall and passes out. When he recovers, he is stuck at that size. Brawler calls a doctor for help which brings Ray to the attention of the CIA.
