Synopsis:
Firestorm departs from the Green Lantern Citadel after the creation of the New Guardians. He fissions and returns to his lives as Ronnie Raymond and Mikhail Arkadin. Ronnie is greeted by his family who has been worried after he had gone missing for several weeks. Ronnie brings them up to date on his adventures in space with the other heroes.
Mikhail returns to Russia. His family is gone. He suspects that the KGB has taken them after his unexplained disappearance. He contacts his brother Alexander for help, but the KGB catch him. They throw him in a cell and begin questioning him.
Elsewhere a meteorite lands on Earth carrying an alien life form known as Zuggernaut. It possesses Russia black marketeer Matvei Rodor. Fueled by Matvei's hatred of KGB agent Soliony, the Zuggernaut attacks the KGB. Mikhail forms Firestorm and fights Zuggernaut. Both are wounded. Zuggernaut retreats. Mikhail and Ronnie fission again. Mikhail is back in his cell before the KGB agents return.
Meanwhile, Zastrow and Stalnoivolk arrive in New York after a fight in Nicaragua. They have been sent to find Ronnie Raymond.
