Synopsis:
Arak and his companions arrive in the city of Damaskos where Alsind plans to rejoin his family. As they approach the city, Arak sees a giant flaming sword in the sky above. The others do not see the sword and don't believe it exists.
Alsind finds the palace where his family lives. After an encounter with the guards, Abu Jahl, Alsind's uncle, invites the group to a dinner feast. Arak impresses Abu Jahl and his men and tells them of the sword. Abu enlists Arak to find the sword which is said to grant power to the man who wields it.
Josephus, the wandering jew, interrupts the festivities. Abu wants him removed, but Arak speaks in the jew's defense having met him in his earlier travels. Josephus warns that the sword is a dangerous weapon and should not be used, but is destined to be found soon.
Suddenly assassins burst into the room. Josephus falls victim to a spear. Arak and the other men put up a fight and push the killers into retreat. Josephus survives the wound. Alsind believes the assassins were meant for him, the prince in exile. When Arak sees that some of the attackers have serpent heads, he wonders if he was their real target.
