Comments:
The flashback to Star Boy’s induction in this story takes place immediately following the second story of Action Comics #267. By process of elimination, Star Boy must be the new member inducted instead of Supergirl when she fails her first initiation test in that story.
The presence of Colossal Boy and Triplicate Girl in this story revealed in flashback in Legion of Super-Heores #306.
This story is based in part on "Lana Lang’s Romance on Mars" from the first story of Adventure Comics #195.
Synopsis:
Outside Smallville, Superboy meets Star Boy, a Legionnaire from the future, with powers similar to his own. Star Boy explains that he has come to capture two criminals who have fled to 20th century Earth. He has already caught one, and enlists the aid of the Boy of Steel to snare the other, but not before Lana Lang overhears their conversation and Star Boy’s reference to his secret identity. She waits for Superboy to leave, then approaches the Legionnaire and tells him that she will reveal his secret to the imprisoned criminal unless he makes Superboy jealous by pretending to fall in love with her and taking her with him to Xanthu.
However, Superboy learns of her scheme, and, after helping Star Boy and Lana trail the second criminal to Xanthu, turns the tables on her by pretending to be interested in Star Boy’s girlfriend Zynthia. Defeated, Lana confesses her plot, and is brought back home.
