Synopsis:
Following their escape from the alien world inhabited by robots, the Metal Men and Doc Magnus travel back toward Earth. A meteor storm threatens the rocket forcing Doc to go outside and make repairs. When he gets back inside, he discovers the cosmic rays have changed him into a robot himself.
Losing his humanity, Doc turns against the Metal Men, whom he considers to be acting defective. Doc plans on dismantling them, but the robots preempt Doc's plan and trap him in his lab. The Metal Men work on a cure for Doc, but they are not successful.
While locked in the lab, Doc creates a new set of robots based on gases. The Gas Gang helps Doc escape and attack the Metal Men. The robots fight back, using their experiments to eventually defeat the Gas Gang with heat. Doc is caught in the trap too. The Metal Men rush him to the recovery room, where he regains his human form and is restored to normal.
