Twinkly, a television puppet controlled by Harold Reynolds, is popular with children across the country. Criminal, Getaway Gatlin, replaces Twinkly with a real boy and forces him to help his criminal enterprises. Superboy thwarts Gatlin's efforts to make money from Twinkly's reputation.

Superboy then exposes Gatlin's scheme, whereby the Twinkly puppet was replaced by the boy who modeled for it. Gatlin had kidnapped the boy's father, the woodcarver who created Twinkly. With boy and father safe, Superboy apprehends Gatlin. Reynolds then uses a copper version of Twinkly created by Superboy until the woodcarver can create another puppet.
