Comments:
This story is continued from Checkmate #26 and continues in Checkmate #28.
Synopsis:
After his children are kidnapped, Harry Stein breaks Jacques Reynard out of Checkmate custody. Sarge Steel orders Harry stopped, but Stein avoids capture. He takes Reynard to an abandoned chemical plant to make the exchange. Valentina Vostok has found the plant too. She tries to quietly help Stein, but her presence is discovered triggering a gunfight. Niles Dark, the kidnapper, and Reynard escape. One of Stein's children is wounded and rushed to the hospital for surgery. Stein is then arrested.
