Comments:
Soul Search – Chapter Three
Doctor Fate makes a short appearance in this story. It is unclear which Doctor Fate this actually is. At the time this story was published, Linda Strauss was the main host for Doctor Fate. However, her powers were fading and she was eventually reincarnated along with Eric Strauss in the bodies of Wendy and Eugene Di Bella in Doctor Fate #24. The mantle of Doctor Fate would eventually pass to Inza Nelson beginning in Doctor Fate #25. However, Kent Nelson is shown in possession of the helmet at the beginning of that story. It shall therefore be assumed, that Kent is the Doctor Fate shown in this story, and that he appears chronologically between the two previously mentioned stories.
This story is continued from Superman #47.
Synopsis:
Superman continues his struggle to save the souls of Jimmy Olsen and Jerry White from Blaze. Jerry briefly succumbs to Blaze's influence, but he shakes off her control when Jimmy is threatened. Blaze then kills him. Superman is able to rescue Jimmy. He topples a rock formation on top of Blaze which gives them both time to escape.
Jimmy awakens from his coma in the hospital. However, Jerry doesn't make it. Clark Kent arrives at the hospital to greet Jimmy and console Perry White on his loss.
