Flashback Appearance(s)

Comments:
Johnny Thunder's chapter is a two-page text story entitled "Guarding an Heiress".

This story continues in part in All-Star Comics #4.

This is the first Justice Society of America story and the first appearance of the team, continuing from its chronologically earlier appearance in DC Special #29.

This story takes place November 22, 1940, as revealed in America vs. the Justice Society #1.

Krakatoa is misspelled "Krakatao" throughout the Hawkman flashback.

The Green Lantern flashback does not take place in his home town of Gotham City, whose police commissioner is Commissioner Gordon, not Commissioner Mason.

This story features the first ever teaming of DC heroes from separate features creating the first super-hero team. It also establishes DC's shared universe.

Synopsis:
Johnny Thunder (and later the Red Tornado) crashes the first meeting of the Justice Society, at a dinner where Johnny suggests that each member tell the story of a case he was recently involved in.

The Flash tells how he helped raise a sunken Spanish galleon, and Hawkman tells of his battle against Mazda and his Fire Ghosts. The Spectre recounts his first meeting with the evil entity called Oom, Hourman relates his encounter with a gang who wore duplicates of his costume, and the Sandman tells of his conflict with the mad Dr. Faversham. Dr. Fate recalls his fight with a wizard who tried to kill him and Inza Cramer, Johnny Thunder reveals how he foiled a kidnapper, and the Atom delineates his halting of a gold shipment robbery. Green Lantern tells of how he and a famed radio reporter helped unseat a crooked police commissioner.

While the meeting is in session, the Flash is asked by the head of the F.B.I. to have the Justice Society meet with him in Washington, to which the other members agree.
