Name: Dan the Dyna-Mite
Universe: Earth-2
Alter Ego: Daniel Dunbar
Marital Status: Single
Group Affiliation: All-Star Squadron
Base of Operations: Unnamed American City
First Appearance: Star Spangled Comics #7
History:
Thomas N. Thomas (who was called "Tom" or "Tex" for short) taught chemistry and physical education at a high school in the early 1940s. His star pupil was Danny Dunbar, and together they worked on advanced chemical experiments.
One evening while Thomas and Dunbar were working on an experiment, Thomas’ hand accidentally touched Dunbar’s, and both teacher and student suddenly found themselves feeling much stronger. Thomas realized that each of them had somehow absorbed the radioactive chemicals with which they were working. Thomas had worked with the "positive" solution and Dunbar with the "negative." By touching each other, Thomas and Dunbar became charged with atomic energy and briefly possessed super-powers. They decided not to reveal their discovery publicly for fear it would be misused. Instead, they used their new super-powers to fight crime as the costumed heroes T.N.T. and Dan the Dyna-Mite, and joined the wartime All-Star Squadron.
T.N.T. and Dyna-Mite began to lose control of their powers and emit deadly radiation uncontrollably. Their powers grew so that if T.N.T. and Dyna-Mite touched each other, a devastating explosion would result. T.N.T. went to the "bottle city" of Kandor for help, while Dyna-Mite went to live in a special chamber in Atlantis. It is unclear what happened to T.N.T. and Dyna-Mite after 1943 now that history has been changed in the "Crisis on Infinite Earths."
Powers:
T.N.T. and Dan the Dyna-Mite each wore a ring on one hand. When they pressed the rings together, they triggered a chemical reaction that charged T.N.T. and Dyna-Mite with atomic energy, giving them super-powers for anywhere from a few minutes to half hour. By pressing the rings together again, they could renew their powers. The energy increased their physical strength, and enabled them to project blasts of energy from their hands. Their punches emitted electrical voltage that stunned opponents. Whether these powers changed over the years is unknown. T.N.T. and Dyna-Mite were very good hand-to-hand combatants.
