Reporter Joan Dale visited Bedloe's Island, the home of the Statue of Liberty. She fell asleep on a park bench wishing that she had power to do good in the world. The sleeping Joan Dale had a dream in which the Statue of Liberty came to life, said she had given Joan the power to transmute matter and had her swear to use this ability to preserve America's freedom. On awakening, Dale discovered she did indeed have this new power.
An old man whom Dale rescued from Nazi Bundists named her "Miss America", saying she was like a spirit of freedom. Dale used this name as an alias in fighting saboteurs. Dale went into action as Miss America wearing a mask and costume.
Miss America was later recruited by the patriotic hero Uncle Sam to join his Freedom Fighters in an attempt to help the America of Earth-X which had no super-heroes of its own. During their effort to prevent the Japanese surprise attack on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Miss America and most of her teammates were killed.
Powers:
Miss America had the super-human power to rearrange the atomic and molecular structure of matter and to transmute it. She was also a good hand-to-hand combatant.
