Comments:
Johnny's Thunderbolt manifests itself invisibly in this story making it appear as if Johnny's magic actually works on people around him, rather than his Thunderbolt.
This story is continued in part from the fourth story of Flash Comics #2 and continues in the fourth story of Flash Comics #4.
This story originally was not titled; the title shown here was given on the contents page of JSA All Star Archives Vol. 1 in which this story is reprinted.
Synopsis:
After winning a preliminary bout with the hidden aid of his Thunderbolt, Johnny Thunder is scheduled to fight the Heavyweight Champion Gunpowder Glantz. Johnny's girlfriend Daisy Darling wants to marry him after he saves her life for the second time. However, she refuses to marry him unless he intentionally loses the fight and gives up his career as a boxer. Johnny agrees to throw the fight.
Glantz however has plans of his own. As a heavy favorite to win, Glantz and his manager place a large bet on Johnny Thunder and intend to throw the match. When the fight begins both men are trying to lose. Johnny eventually wins by accident with the secret help of his Thunderbolt. The victory is bittersweet for Johnny because Daisy calls off their engagement.
