Synopsis:
Batman suspects engineer Jay Varden of supplying the underworld with plans for criminal operations. However, Batman can't find enough evidence to have Varden arrested. To trap the crook, Batman builds a phony Bat-Cave near Varden's mansion. He then allows construction crews to uncover it, convincing Gotham that Varden is Batman.

Varden runs to his underworld associates, who believe that he has betrayed them. Batman continues the deception in order to capture Mack Manchard and his gang. Varden escapes by using Batman's ploy against them by claiming that he is Batman. However, the real Caped Crusader expected the ploy and is able to quickly track down Varden with enough evidence to arrest him.
