The crew of the Excalibur are based on the Fantastic Four. Hank and Terri Henshaw take the roles of Reed Richards and Sue Storm. Jim Garrison and Steven (no last name given) are dopplegangers of Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm. Although Hank appears to die in this story, he later returns as the Cyborg-Superman.
Synopsis:
The crew of the space shuttle Excalibur crash on Earth and find themselves transformed by radiation. Seeking to help themselves they travel to a LexCorp facility in Metropolis. Their appearance sparks a battle with LexCorp guards. Superman arrives on the scene to help. He leads Hank Henshaw and the others inside, but Steven has been transformed completely in radiation and blasts off into space. He perishes in the sun. Jim Garrison is in immense pain and covered with Earth and metal. He kills himself using a magnetic resonance machine. Hank succumbs to radiation, leaving only a skeleton behind. With Superman's help, Terri Henshaw is saved. She is the only apparent survivor of the group.
After getting Terri to a hospital, Superman resumes his role as Clark Kent. He then makes a move on Lois Lane, sharing a kiss with her.
