Swamp Thing loses an arm in this story which later regrows into a second mindless Swamp Thing in Swamp Thing #19.
Synopsis:
Swamp Thing stows away on a ship in order to return to America. However, he is discovered by the crew and forced to jump into the ocean. Swamp Thing washes ashore near Divinity, Maine. He is found by Rebecca Ravenwind and her brother. They are hiding from the townspeople, who believe Rebecca is a witch.
Swamp Thing tries to protect Rebecca, but the angry mob cuts off his arm and captures the siblings. Rebecca is forced to stand trial and is convicted of being a witch. She is then taken outside of town to be burned at the stake. Swamp Thing recovers, grows a new arm, and rescues Rebecca. She is not the true witch in the family, her brother Timothy is. His magic transforms the evil villagers into flowers. Swamp Thing and the Ravenwinds then part company.
