Synopsis:
Adam returns to Ranagar with Alanna's mother Bantteir to find the city in the middle of an invasion. He locates Alanna who is in about to deliver her child early. Evelyn Fox is there. She is angry at Adam for cheating on his wife with her.
Meanwhile, Sardath has been removed from the medical unit too soon following his injuries caused by Adam. He has lost an eye and now appears to be slightly insane. Despite his condition, Sardath is able to save the city by enclosing it in a dome and blasting it into space.
Alanna gives birth to a daughter, but she dies in childbirth. Adam is despondent. With the condition of the city, the death of the High Council, and Sardath's mental state, Bantteir begins trying to establish a new government. Evelyn tries to snap Adam out of his depression. After several weeks, he is able to embrace his daughter and help the city in space survive.
