Comments:
This story is the first appearance of the post-Crisis Challengers of the Unknown. Though their adventures appear to be a direct continuation from previous stories, the post-Crisis Challengers are considered to be entirely independent from their Earth-1 counterparts.
Synopsis:
The Challengers of the Unknown are scheduled to appear on a talk show "Real Incredible People". While backstage they tell June how they met for the first time when they were to appear on another television show and their plane crashed. The four men survived the crash and were all living on "borrowed" time, so they formed the Challengers of the Unknown.
When the producers of the television show deliver a giant box, the Challengers immediately recognize it as a sorcerer's box. Early in their career they had been hired by Mr. Morelian to open another such box which contained the secret of immortality. After the Challengers defeated a number of menaces from inside the box, Morelian found a ring of immortality inside it. However, the ring only worked while in remained inside the box.
Fearing the second box contains more menaces, the Challengers take it to a remote location to be opened. June wins the first chance to open it and finds an old man inside. The man is an immortal, but only as long as he remains inside. At the man's request, the Challengers seal him back in the box.
