Synopsis:
Mavis Trent believes that she unwittingly caused a minotaur to appear magically after reading aloud a mystic incantation from an ancient Chaldean relic, but her theory is quashed when Hawkman and Hawkgirl battle a phoenix which appears over Hawk Valley. They discover that each conjured creature is responsible for gaining possession of objects necessary to gain the full powers of a sorcerer, a contention shot down by eyewitness magic-expert Konrad Kaslak, who insists the mythological creatures are merely illusions. Unconvinced, Hawkman and Hawkgirl attempt to intercede before the remaining two objects are also acquired, by battling a dragon, centaurs, and Medusa, as they deduce that Kaslak is the would-be sorcerer. They arrive just in time to prevent his spell from succeeding.
