Part 2: "The Amazing Winner of the Great Proty Puzzle"
A flashback in this story reveals that Triplicate Girl, Chameleon Boy, Colossal Boy, Invisible Kid, and Brainiac 5 were present at Superboy's induction ceremony into the Legion.
Saturn Girl is re-elected Legion leader in this story.
Synopsis:
After rejecting two applicants, Spider Girl and Double-Header, Saturn Girl announces that it's time to elect a new leader. The Legionnaires debate over the best method of doing this, and decide to follow Proty II's suggestion of electing the member who succeeds in solving a puzzle he has devised.
Transforming himself into a Bizarro-Proty, and engraving his name backwards on a medallion as part of the puzzle, Proty reveals his plan to have various tasks, each one containing a clue to the puzzle's solution. In order, Saturn Girl, Ultra Boy, Phantom Girl, Element Lad, Pete Ross, Brainiac 5, and Jimmy Olsen (as Elastic Lad) fulfill the duties Proty assigns them.
At the conclusion, Saturn Girl realizes what Proty has in mind, and has each involved Legionnaire write the first letter of his codename on a card, and the honorary members write the first letters of their last names. Then she has them stand in line in the order they performed their tasks, with Proty and his medallion bringing up the rear. The cards and medallion spell out "Superboy", and Saturn Girl further explains that Proty devised this puzzle to celebrate the anniversary of the induction of the Boy of Steel into the Legion.
By solving the puzzle, Saturn Girl remains the Legion's leader for a second term.
