Synopsis:
Working in seclusion, Brainiac 5 turns away all visitors from his United Planets Lab Complex in order to devote himself to his newest top-secret invention, Computo, a gigantic mobile computer with an intellect far superior to anything yet created. Computo devours the contents of an entire encyclopedia within minutes and even advises Brainiac 5 on its own construction.
Then, without warning, it suddenly grabs Brainiac 5 and forces him through its body into the energum-induction bubble at its top. Holding him prisoner, Computo absorbs Brainiac 5's knowledge and quickly produces duplicates of itself, sending them forth to seize Earth's greatest brains. This they do, putting Metropolis into a panic in the process. Brainiac 5, meanwhile, signals his fellow Legionnaires for assistance.
Superboy and Ulta Boy arrive to find the computer army running rampant, and destroy two of them before Computo taps their memories as well. As the computers threaten to destroy themselves and their hostages if the Legionnaires continue to battle, Superboy and Ultra Boy reluctantly depart.
Computo then returns to the U.P. Lab Complex, discards Brainiac 5 as a useless hostage, and rebuilds itself in a more efficient form. It then secretly redesigns the Legion Clubhouse and summons the Super-Heroes to it. When the Legionnaires arrive, they learn that their Clubhouse is now a walking, talking computer. They are trapped inside with a device that nullifies their powers, until Superboy escapes and frees his comrades.
The mobile computer army arrives and takes a group of Legionnaires hostage while Computo itself destroys one of Triplicate Girl's three bodies. The other Legionnaires retreat, and Computo orders Superboy, Mon-El, and Ultra Boy to leave Earth within 24 hours lest the captive members die.
