Synopsis:
After his release from prison Al Desmond has completely reformed and given up his Mr. Element persona. However, the time-travelling Professor Zoom uses a hypnotic influence to coerce Desmond into a return to criminal behavior. Zoom wants Desmond to stabilize Element Z which will give Zoom super-speed powers again.
After failing to resist Zoom's commands, Mr. Element returns which leads to a confrontation with the Flash. Zoom helps his mental slave committ crimes, until Desmond finally breaks down and embraces crime fully. Mr. Element then purifies Element Z for Zoom, which he molds into an amulet.
Using the amulet, Professor Zoom's super-speed is restored. He then uses Flash's cosmic treadmill to return to his own time. Flash pursues him and stops Zoom's scheme to free convicts from prison. Flash defeats Zoom and turns the amulet over to the authorities. He then returns to his own time with proof that Desmond was only a pawn. Charges against Mr. Element are dropped, and Desmond resumes his reformed life.
