Green Lantern receives a distress signal from Doiby Dickles. When he arrives at Doiby's location, he is attacked by an unseen foe. GL escapes harm and rescues Doiby. Their attacker disappears leaving behind a withered flower.
Alan Scott and Doiby then attend a reception held by Alan's friend John Cashmere to celebrate the reunion with his long lost son, Dick. During the party, Dick becomes enraged by a photographer and attacks him. Later the photographer is found murdered with a picture of Solomon Grundy.
Green Lantern investigate and discovers that Grundy has returned to Earth from the moon where he had been imprisoned. Somehow Grundy has also gained a magical ability to mimick the appearance of Dick Cashmere. Grundy intends to kill John Cashmere, but Green Lantern stops him. GL then sends his foe underground to the Earth's core where he cannot escape.
